The Amnesty Turncoats

Recent history of immigration amnesty in the United States follows:

In 1986 (under Ronald Reagan) which was supposed to be a one time effort for approximately 2.7 million illegal aliens.

In 1994 (under Bill Clinton) there was a temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens.

In 1996 (under Bill Clinton) under the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), employers were sanctioned for the first time for hiring undocumented workers. Nearly 3 million illegal immigrants were granted legal residence under this amnesty act.

In 1997 (under Bill Clinton) we had a special amnesty for close to 1 million illegal aliens from Central America.

In 2013 (under Barack Obama) we have an amnesty bill being voted on that will make the illegal actions of 12 million immigrants legal! Wow!

We now have the same issue we had in 1986, except in ever larger numbers or illegal immigrants. Yes illegal is the correct term as these people, and/or their parents, entered the US either in violation of our immigration laws or stayed beyond their allowed time per the VISA which they used to enter the country. These are people who do not follow our laws and get the appropriate VISAs and documents to immigrate permanently to the United States.

Does anyone really think that passing the current immigration amnesty bill is going to stop the problem? Are not we going to be right back at this table in ten more years (or less) arguing for another amnesty program?

As part of the solution we need to close the problem of splitting families when we force illegal immigrants with children to return to their country. Their children, born in the United States, are considered U.S. citizens and do not have to go to their parents home country. Not only does this split families it causes a social welfare problem for the legal citizens of the United States, who end up taking care of these children. The laws need to be changed so that at least one of a child’s birth parents need to be an American citizen for the child to be an American citizen upon birth.

These 30 senators, all Republicans, voted FOR AMNESTY!! Are these the Republicans we want representing us?
